Stanford Hospital & Clinics and AMN Healthcare

The Preferred Client Relationship: Stanford Hospital & Clinics and AMN Healthcare

Stanford’s Staffing Challenge

Geoff Pridham, manager of nursing administrative services for Stanford Hospital & Clinics in Stanford, California, oversees the travel nursing workforce for the nationally-recognized hospital.

The facility has been named one of the country’s best U.S. hospitals in 2007 by U.S. News and World Report, with its success largely dependent upon having quality staff to deliver the best in patient care. While working with multiple staffing companies, Pridham found he did not always have a full staff and was drowning in paperwork.

Bottom line: Pridham needs top supplemental staff, without the hassle.

“About eight years ago I took on the travel agency program here at Stanford Hospital,” Pridham said. “We had eight agencies for travel nurses at that time. They offered multiple promises, some of which were never acted on.”

With their reputation for incomparable patient care, Stanford Hospital & Clinics couldn’t afford to work with unreliable or unprepared contingent staffing firms. Instead, the hospital chose to work exclusively with only highly skilled nurses and a reliable staffing business.

“I slowly reduced our staffing firms to our top three,” said Pridham. “There were some severe disappointments which led us to go with one company who had always followed through: AMN Healthcare.”

AMN Healthcare is the nation’s largest healthcare staffing firm. Prepared to provide, AMN formed an exclusive relationship with Stanford Hospital & Clinics and helped the facility maintain its impeccable reputation.

Today, if you call Pridham’s voice mail at the facility, you’ll hear: “If you are calling from a travel nursing agency, we currently have an exclusive contract with AMN Healthcare.”
